Chambers Health Continues to Serve the Community

ANAHUAC, TEXAS (July 2023):

Chambers Health continues to serve the community by adding new programs that address social determinants of health (SDOH), defined by the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) as nonmedical factors that influence health outcomes.

The community organization recently added two programs to support community needs as they relate to food insecurity. The two programs are to be offered through The Wellness Center at Bayside in Anahuac.

The Kids Cafe Summer Feeding Program is a partnership with the Houston Food Bank, offering a nationwide program to help alleviate child hunger in America. The program will provide free nutritious meals and snacks at times when other resources are not available.  This program is funded directly through the Houston Food Bank and the program offered through The Wellness Center at Bayside was coordinated with Anahuac ISD to fill the gap before the school year begins.

Any child under the age of eighteen (18) may receive a free meal and snack. Kids do not need to be enrolled in a school program to participate. For questions regarding this program, please reach staff at 409-267-3700 or attend the program July 3 through August 5 (closed on the holiday, July 4). Meals will be served Monday through Friday, between 11:00am to 1:00pm with a movie shown in the theater immediately after.

The Meals on Wheels program, Succeeding Chambers County’s recent excellent program stewardship, and in partnership with the Houston-Galveston Area Council, this program will help meet the growing demand for senior nutrition in Chambers County. The program is geared toward homebound seniors but there are exceptions to this requirement, based on a needs evaluation.  The Meals on Wheels program looks forward to beginning a congregate meal program in the near future.

This program also offers opportunities for volunteering to deliver meals. Volunteers interested in the program, and residents in need, should reach out to Program Manager, Christina Dickerson at 409-267-3700, extension 3222.
